Irene.....what a b!tch
by Tony Peters on August 29, 2011

the storm was past people were starting to move around and then I hear what sounds like a gunshot coming from the south east corner of our house......we walk out side and a tree half a block away crashed into the power lines ripping my transmission line off the house along with a a bunch of siding. Joy. not only no power but I have repairs to do before we can even get power back. the only highlight is that at least I'll have power before the end of the week. My parents live on Aquidneck island which lost one of the main transmission towers. they are looking at weeks before they get power again

the lack of power doesn't bother me its the damage to my house that's most annoying

One large tree came down in my neighborhood but didn't affect me and thankfully no one else. Power is good but I won't know about the new house for sure until the final walk-through Wednesday night.

Weeks is nothing we had months when we were living in Guam...reason to own a generator
yeah the island has too many people who know people they ended up getting the lion share of the manpower in the state for the first 2 days after the storm.....they have power.....I got mine back at about 8 am yesterday new service wire as well.....cable and internet this afternoon. I did most of the repairs on the house there is still a piece of outside corner trim that needs replacing.
The offending tree was chopped up by the city today I took a couple of logs to season and sculpt this spring

Ha! Good news! Revenge on the evil tree. Turn it into something beautiful.

Last day skateboarding of 2007
OK I admit that a 41 year old man finding a day of enjoyment skateboarding might sound strange but I find it centers me and provides a source of exercise that I can't find else ware. That said I spent the day working on my tuck, downhilling in a nearby neighborhood. I lost count of the number of times I went down the half mile hill my legs are feeling the hike back up (gotta earn those runs) so I'm gonna guess more than 20 times and I know I listened to at least 6 hours of music on my Ipod. more liquid metal
My sculpture Professor decided that the burner we use for melting metal wasn't working out well, since it was designed for a forge and not a furnace he had a furnace burner made.....it used to take hours to melt 20lb of bronze, it took us 40 minutes yesterday. I have never seen the crucible as hot as it was. Go »
retirement
I should spend more time working on things like this during my time off. I find I am playing more though. These were shot over memorial day weekend, Muji and I went to the beach Go »

The goal was to get from Rhode Island to Ithaca for a family reunion and back by using only back roads. We succeeded and we plenty of adventures to boot...my Go »

Sorry to hear it. I've been without power in the summertime for a few days post-hurricane and it's an annoying test of patience. Hang in there.
