The game continued from Chapter 24: The Crimson Castle.

Having just returned to the Manor, the group made a horrific discovery: Old ally John Sheppard was fatally impaled by his own magic weapon. The Invisible Man, instructed by Professor Moriarty to guard the house, tried to strangle Gilbert but was captured, and sealed in a stone chamber. Rose apologized for the Fellowship, saying that she resented her uncle dragging her into the cult, and was glad to work with this group instead. The Crimson Castle was gone, its occupants apparently dead. Deke peered into the door that Moriarty was last known to use, and found that it opened to a warehouse in Hong Kong. When four guards approached, the group sealed the door for the night. Finally consumed with curiosity in the morning, they re-opened it and found twelve guards, dressed in cloaks like Elijah and wielding katanas. Elijah briefly left with one that he seemed to recognize, telling the group this was his thieves guild. When Caleb was shot by a sniper during the ensuing battle, Elijah ran back to help, apparently betraying his gang.

While Sagesse talked detective Charlie Chan away from the warehouse, Deke searched the bodies and found that the guards worked for Weng-yu, who reported to legendary criminal Fu Manchu. Caleb had a vision of James Moriarty murdered in the harbor, but the group could find no body. Elijah led them into town, where the news of the day concerned a Chinese nationalist group called the Devouring Dragon that threatened attacks against Westerners. The group worked together to save attendees of a football match escape from a poison cloud set by the Devouring Dragon. Two men Caleb had long ago mind-controlled to "go sail to China" bumped into him and he ordered them to search the harbor for Moriarty's body. The group tracked Weng-yu to a nightclub, but decided to wait until it opened in the evening, passing the time by shopping and talking to locals. They learned the address of the local La Lumière agent stationed here and visited him, but found him dead in his flat, assassinated with snake venom. His notes produced mention that Elijah's "great thieves organization" and the Devouring Dragon were in fact the same group, led by Fu Manchu with prominent members Weng-Yu the torturer, Ming the assassin, and mysterious Li Shoon.

Hearing screams, the group ran to help: Poisonous snakes had just been released into a crowd at a busy intersection by the Devouring Dragon. While Elijah fought the perpetrators and Elise saved bystanders, Deke tried to steal a rich man's car, and discovered that the passenger was former enemy Mortimer Toombs. Caleb followed Toombs away from the scene and flattered him into making a secret arrangement. At the Jade Tiger nightclub, Elijah's brother David summoned Elijah to the back and soon had him strapped to a chair and interrogated. The group fought his torturer, a martial arts expert who handily resisted until they overwhelmed him. Questioned, he revealed himself as Weng-yu, assistant to Fu Manchu and plotter of several more terror incidents. The police sealed the scene, and Caleb convinced Inspector Charlie Chan to stop the future attacks revealed by Weng-yu.

Interrogating Weng-yu, the group learned that Elijah's brother David was Fu Manchu's personal courier and the only way to find the master criminal. Deke found a note describing a plot involving a burglar named Pao Tcheou. When Caleb received a magic message from the servants he sent to comb the harbor, the group hurried back to a warehouse on the docks, and walked into a trap: German assassins, presumably from Die Wächtern, had turned a fireworks storage facility into an explosive ambush to kill their sworn enemy Caleb Lonergan. The group killed a few assassins, rescued one of the two servants, and escaped just before an explosion destroyed the building.

The Living Instrument of My Will
game session #129

From a copy of the day's newspaper on an assassin's corpse, the group learned that Caleb's earlier boasting had alerted his enemies to his presence in Hong Kong. From the man they had rescued, they learned that Professor Moriarty had actually departed Hong Kong five days earlier on a ship bound for the Dutch East Indies, after giving orders to a bald man in a yellow robe that sounded like the man who had sniped at them earlier. At a coffee shop, Deke ran into the "masseuse" he had "spent time with" that afternoon and learned that she was Qiu Jin, servant of former ally Alexandria Knight, who had traveled to India. In a clock tower, the group confronted an invisible thief, who evaded their capture as they rescued police officers from a collapsing stairwell. Meeting Mortimer Toombs at midnight, Caleb learned that Dracula was assembling more agents like himself to exterminate the group, and a mole within the party was feeding him information including their whereabouts.

Believing Sagesse's ring to be Dracula's source of information, the group decided to travel through their portal to New Orleans to get help from an acquaintance, sorceress Marie Laveau. She worked with Elise's terramancy to pry the ruby from the ring and break the spell. In the cemetery nearby, a ghostly and dripping wet woman named Serilia threatened Deke and Elijah and spoke of getting revenge on Elise LeBlanc. After convincing a priest to bless their weapons to better defend against Dracula, the group returned to Hong Kong and went to the Ivy household, where they incapacitated David Ivy and his girlfriend, the assassin Ming. Elijah's parents Shi and Yan were discovered alive and in good health, despite Elijah's conviction that he had once murdered them, a revelation that sickened the group. It came to light that the mysterious Li Shoon was known for faking assassinations like Moriarty's, and he had once merely tricked Elijah into thinking his parents were dead so that Elijah would leave Hong Kong. Humbled to see his brother make peace with the parents he once hated, David told the group he wanted to walk a different path in life too: He offered to help them get inside Fu Manchu's lair, inside a Shaolin temple on a nearby mountain.

The group turned Ming over to Charlie Chan for a reward and stocked up on supplies, then headed to the Shaolin temple in a lightning storm to confront Fu Manchu. Elijah was unable to enter the holy temple as a result of losing his soul weeks earlier. Inside, the others were attacked by warrior monks whose hands sliced like blades. A frantic Elijah pleaded for help that Fu Manchu was overwhelming him outside, so the group made quick work of the monks and forced their way out to the courtyard, where they found an enemy fast enough to catch bullets in midair. When they did manage to strike him, they dislodged his fake mustache and wig and learned that there was no real Fu Manchu: The mysterious and bald Li Shoon, who had threatened Caleb twice earlier around Hong Kong, had adopted the legendary persona from local folklore to take over the criminal underworld and use it to form a nationalist army to attack the West. The group finally defeated him, but they were shocked to find Elijah dead of his injuries, and his brother David dead as well for betraying the gang.
