The game continued from Chapter 2: Philadelphia.

Morning Edition

game session #8
played on September 21, 2009

Aidan left the group with Liesel Schreiner to plot an assault on the Hellfire Club, then Celio left to settle down in Philadelphia. To the group's surprise, Thaddeus Jackson inducted the rest of them as full members of La Lumière, saying that their intelligence-gathering mission had been a success. Elise heard of a magic-related museum robbery in New York, so the group boarded a train there. Would-be robbers were quickly intimidated into surrender by a quick-thinking group and the appearance of Rachael. A fellow passenger, illusionist Jacques LeBeau, became entangled with the group and stuck close to them. Arriving in New York, they were followed by a homeless 12-year-old boy who could only say "Gao." John recognized something special about the child, so the group bought him a meal and took him along. At Elise's newspaper office, William Randolph Hearst offered to pay the group for research, and told them that black powder and a pentagram had been found at the scene of the museum robbery, so they launched an investigation. Gotham

game session #9
played on September 28, 2009

Investigating the robbery at the Museum of World History, John greeted his friend Angelo Chandler, the curator. Lawrence found that the locks had been professionally picked, and a line of ground brick dust covered the doorway, a spell that gypsies used to keep enemies at bay. Gao found a creature watching the group in a vent, but it ran away. Katerina questioned two old guards, who admitted to sleeping through the robbery. At the library, Elise investigated Ramla, the oracle of Bubastis, whose mummified remains were in the stolen sarcophagus; she learned much about the city and its royal offspring, but little about Ramla except that she may have other powers besides precognition. In Little Italy, the group tracked down a schoolteacher who Vinny claimed had been to the museum twice that week, but she denied it. After Alexandria spotted someone pickpocket Lawrence, they confronted him, and Lawrence knocked him out with his sword. When questioned, the gypsy pickpocket named Gabori apologized and said his leader Bronwyn would not talk to Jacques, but the group insisted on being taken to her. (more detail)

Sects and the City

game session #10
played on October 5, 2009

The pickpocket Gabori led the group to Central Park, where John set off a magical trap and they were surrounded by hostile gypsies. The leader, Bronwyn Cutitari, suggested that they look for professional thieves at Five Points, and refused to help Jacques, calling him the insult "athingani." Alexandria figured out to bury John in snow to cool off his rising temperature from the trap. After treating Lawrence's wounds at the hospital and seeing victims of some kind of animal attack, the group stopped at the library and discovered how to use their rings to get the local address of a La Lumière agent. Gao suddenly took off running, and the group followed him to a food market where the owner had been suspended over a bonfire made of his shelves. Some of the group ran inside and were caught in a net, while others attacked the waiting cultists and were hit by fireballs and swords. Gao freed the net from the ceiling and rejoined the battle. John heard one of the cultists saw that they wanted the child because "the awakening has begun." In the violent battle, all four cultists were killed, but the group was badly hurt. (more detail)

Prey

game session #11
played on October 12, 2009

Alexandria realized that Gao slept behind the burnt food market. The owner, Franklin Jackson, said Gao needed to leave town to get away from the cultists. The group carried Franklin to the overnight clinic they had recently left, but it was surrounded by police who explained that a gang had taken hostages inside. Elise and Alexandria talked their way inside, where gang leader Bill the Butcher was badly hurt after being attacked by some kind of panther with yellow eyes. He told them to bring him Elise's boss, newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, who he feared was "next." The group found him cowering in his ransacked office; he fainted and they brought him back to the clinic. Hearst broke down and admitted that he had hired this gang to rob the museum to invent a fake news story. The sarcophagus had been sold to antiques dealer William Wilson, who the group had rescued in Baltimore. At his store, John said an Egyptian prayer and placed the mummified body back in place carefully, calling off the vengeful apparition of cat goddess Bastet and earning her gratitude. The group arranged for La Lumière to return the sarcophagus to Egypt, and Jacques and Gao were inducted as members. The group planned to take the next day off to rest before heading to Boston to investigate murders. (more detail)
