Let Not the Dragon Be My Guide
game session #25
played on February 1, 2010
Alexandria woke up to an unwelcome bedfellow: Father Joseph Blenk, who came back from Providence to warn her that he'd seen Katerina Petrovich led into a cult's meeting place that the church seemed to want to cover up. The group confirmed Joseph Curwen's death and learned his spells, but Gao foresaw Katerina's dead body, frightening her. The group dispatched Vinny to warn Theresa O'Neill of danger, then set off for Providence. They went directly to the train station where Katerina had been taken, and found their way into a basement, where they were attacked by two cultists, one wielding magical black blades and the other casting spells of black fire. The group was nearly defeated, but fought to victory. There was no sign of Katerina, but the cultists worshiped someone named Salistra and were practicing a demonic ritual. (more detail)
Elise for defeating Severino alone
game session #26
played on February 8, 2010
Elise sealed the train station basement with the cultist's bodies inside. At the nearby church, Lawrence questioned an altar boy who had said too much, Elise confessed to a Father Moretti, Alexandria rifled through letters in Moretti's office and found notes from Celio Parisi, and John was arrested for assaulting an old woman. He paid his own way out and they slept for the night. Elise questioned Moretti again, and caught him lying when he claimed to be Katerina Petrovich's adoptive father, but there was definitely some kind of connection between Moretti and Katerina. Alexandria heard rumors about a farmer whose ox was mutilated, so they traveled to his snowy farm. He mistook them for cultists and almost shot Lawrence, but Lawrence talked him down and they found an ox killed in the same fashion as the eagle. They researched the symbol found under both animals; it was associated with the demon Astaroth. While meeting with the local La Lumière agent, they realized the connection to the evangelists: Luke was symbolized by an ox and John by an eagle, which left Mark symbolized by a lion and Matthew symbolized by an angel. Tears of the Angels

Guessing that the only lion in town would be found at the local zoological park, the group trekked to the complex, which was closed for the snowstorm. Sneaking through an opening in the stone wall, they passed by loose animals, and found lionesses caught in sticky black webbing. Two cultists put up quite a fight, running a spear of ice through John's chest, but were ultimately defeated. As the group questioned the survivor, a fatal shot rang out, and Aidan Kane chastised the group for giving the cultist mercy. They questioned him about his activities since he left the group, and learned that he was there to kill the darkling Salistra, who needed to kill an angel on holy ground to complete her ritual. Leaving after Aidan, they traveled to the cathedral, where they found him being tied up in chains over a magical flame, along with Katerina Petrovich, Joseph Blenk, Father Moretti, and the altar boy who Lawrence had questioned, with the angel Rachael pinned in the center of the pentagram. They tried to free Rachael and the five victims while fending off Salistra and the cultists, but they couldn't do it all in time. After the altar boy succombed to the fire, Salistra killed Rachael with black lightning and fled in triumph with her followers. The group managed to get Katerina and Moretti down in time, but Aidan and Blenk perished in the flames. Fleeing the crowd outside, the group returned to La Lumière contact Stephenson Hayes, who helped them deduce that Salistra was trying to free her father, since darklings were the offspring of demons and humans. Katerina offered to travel to the Vatican to report Aidan's death and prepare for an expected strike by Astaroth, while Moretti pleaded for forgiveness for being enchanted into helping Salistra find Rachael. The rest of the group departed for La Lumière business in Pittsburgh. (more detail)
