At the Manor, the group had varying reactions to new chef Tabasco, and Sagesse, Edgar, and Rose suffered frightening night terrors that made them want to stay home. Mycroft Holmes left the group a package containing police files from Zurich and instructed them to find Detective Flageolet, a La Lumière agent. In Paris, they visited La Lumière's underground vault to hire a French translator, and learned more about the history of the Red Death and the activities of two old foes, Solomon Kane and the mummy Serilia. In Zurich, Deke assaulted a teenager in the library who insulted Caleb, and they learned of an ancient statue being stolen from the Louvre. The local cell leader spoke of Flageolet's disappearance while investigating a demonic cult, and suggested following in his footsteps. A fellow officer suggested that Flageolet was looking into something in the mountains outside of town.

A Struggle That Seems Lost is the Most Exciting

Walking across the grounds of Lady LeDuece's estate, the group encountered bear scat containing human flesh, and a bear dying of a gunshot wound, whose soul Nann prayed for. Hearing a grave being dug, they encountered cultists who attacked them with pistols, soundly defeating them even before the intervention of an Iroquois warrior named Mani and the surprise appearance of Jacques la Roque, looking for his missing sister Sagesse. They interrogated the cultists and left the "mess" for Jacques to clean up as a law enforcement officer. Sagesse and Gilbert were missing from the Manor. At the cultist's house, the group found police already dispatched there by Jacques getting shot by cultists, and intervened in time to save two of them. The cultists were overwhelmed by Elise manipulating their statue of the demon Pazuzu, stolen from the Louvre, and the cult leader died trying to escape through a window. After fleeing to the Manor to evade police, they looked through the stolen diary of cultist Dr. Scholl, who described his invitation to a dinner with luminaries and celebrities the following evening, which attracted Caleb's interest.
Elise for getting the Pazuzu cultists to surrender

Elise pointed out that the group never takes advantage of La Lumière's Vault beneath Paris, and suggested that they do more to equip themselves against an imminent attack by Dracula. They visited the Vault, where a scan revealed that Nannuraluk was a changeling, unbeknownst to him. This caused La Lumière great concern, but the group agreed to vouch for Nann's presence. When Elise repeated her earlier admonishment to Mycroft Holmes that La Lumière be more active in fighting the Red Death, he gave her a solo assignment away from the group to do just that, to commence shortly. Elise and Caleb delivered the reassembled Pazuzu statue to the Louvre and chatted with a thief they had once met, while Edgar Cayce warned Nannuraluk of Deke's volatility toward Native Americans. Returning to Zurich to investigate Michelle LeDuece, the group talked their way into her chateau, where Caleb and Deke both became infatuated and flirted with her, while Nann played with her bloodhound and Elise began sneaking around the house. Deke was concerned that he couldn't read LeDuece's thoughts. She expressed interest in seeing them all that night at a high-society dinner with other celebrities including Otto Hunziker and Sarah Bernhardt, and they departed to get ready.

Sagesse found the group at the Manor and revealed that she was Dracula's unwitting pawn. Ever since Dracula bit her in San Francisco, she had reported on the group's activities in her dreams using her eidetic memory, helpless to his will since she was becoming a vampire herself. Elise suddenly staked her through the heart, causing chaos as some of the group fought her and others fled. Eventually she died and was quickly resurrected, hopefully breaking Dracula's power over her. The group dressed for the fancy dinner in Zurich, where they discovered their powers not working and chatted with celebrities including British adventurer Phineas Fogg, who Sagesse agreed to let follow the group. Deke tried to poison Caleb with fast-acting laxative but Elise drank it instead, and Caleb splashed female hormones on Deke, winning the affection of Michelle LeDeuce. When Shesh found a bomb under the table, they defused it and walked into an ambush by German vigilante group Die Wächtern, still trying to assassinate Caleb, but Michelle transformed into a werefox in the ensuing battle. The group defeated the assassins, and Caleb and Michelle excused themselves for the evening. Deciding to perform a séance on the grounds of her estate, the group found the eyeless ghost of Simon Flageolet, who explained the family curse: LeDuece women fall passionately in love and enjoy vigorous sex, then grow bored and kill for pleasure, feeding the victim's flesh to their silver foxes, who are under her control like all animals. The group barged into her house and fought off a swarm of foxes, while Shesh obeyed LeDuece's mind control and attacked his master Nann. In the basement, the group found Caleb nude and in a bondage harness, believing himself to be engaged to marry LeDeuce for the furthering of his career, but the group killed LeDeuce in battle, breaking the spell that she had over him. She transformed into a silver fox after death.
