A character with this defect has little or no ability to use machines. The character may reject them as part of a religion or general philosophy. The character may have been injured by a machine and now won't go near them. Or, the character may simply have grown up without them and doesn't trust them. For whatever reason, the character has limited ability to use machines, even if s/he understands what each machine does. Primitive machines (such as pulleys and wheels) do not count; as a rule of thumb, count metal machines made of complex moving parts, whether large or small.
Level One: The character generally avoids machines. S/He can use a machine with a successful Mind check if the situation calls for it.
Level Two: The character has a disastrous streak using machines. If the character fails to pass a Mind check to use a machine, then the machine breaks or some other unlucky thing happens as a result. (The GM should treat this as if it's a critical failure on the dice.)
