Scott Hardie: “It was ok.”
This movie probably suffered from coming out so soon after the tonally different and outstanding Infinity War, a tough act to follow. This isn't a bad movie at all; it just feels like a minor footnote in the MCU compared to everything else that's happening. Maybe a fall or winter release would have benefitted it?
I loved the humor throughout the movie, easily its best quality. The rapport between Randall Park and Paul Rudd is great; those two could make a buddy comedy together. And the special effects are once again very impressive. I knew when I saw a shrinking car that it was going to figure prominently in a car chase later, and the movie didn't disappoint. The mid-credits and end-credits scenes were good too.
But the movie feels too overstuffed with subplots; the script needed more time to get sorted out. The subplot with the technology thieves felt crammed in, and the baddies themselves felt like stock villains from 1980s thrillers. I would have cut them out of the movie after their first scene in the restaurant (even if the interrogation scene was fun) and spent that time better developing the other new characters. Is it me or is Ghost the least-developed main MCU villain to date? They didn't do much with her personality, and they certainly didn't do enough with her powers. Abilities like that scream out for clever cinematic uses beyond just dodging punches and walking through walls.
The Marvel factory has become so good at producing quality entertainment that even their underdeveloped minor releases like this are still loads of fun. This review contains spoilers. Reveal it.

Evie Totty: “It was ok.”
It's the MCU so it's definitely a lot of fun. It just didn't 'grab' me like you know, CA:WS did. Explains why Ant-Man wasn't in Infinity War and touches on why The Wasp wasn't in Civil War lol.
Doesn't really connect with the rest of the MCU otherwise... until the mid-credits scene. Be sure to check it out prior to Endgame (if you are reading this before all of that comes out lol)
