Scott Hardie: “It was ok.”
This feels like Taika Waititi's response to Ted Lesso, except that it was filmed pre-pandemic and had to wait this long for re-shoots. It's a pleasing film, as reliably entertaining as any underdog sports story, with the lovability of the supporting characters overcoming the abrasiveness of the protagonist. They're so good, in fact, that you wish that the movie was about them; the team captain and team manager in particular would have made for better and fresher movies if the story had been told from their perspective instead.
