Steve West: “It sucked.”

Animated films are usually and primarily targeted to children. I get it. But adult parents are at least a secondary audience, certainly. This movie had jokes targeting adults (I think) but were almost exclusively lame. Voices by Andy Samberg, Kelsey Grammer and Jennifer Aniston were largely wasted and, for the most part, unrecognizable. When you cast an A-level star then I would think you would want the audience to recognize said star like Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Will Smith, etc. These guys exaggerate sometimes during their voice-overs so you know absolutely who the actor is behind the cartoon. No spoilers here except to say the wolves were hilarious - but nothing else was. The carrier pigeon character was intended to be unlikeable but this guy was borderline offensive. I could not have disliked him more had he spoken like Jar Jar Binks.

Scott Hardie: Some movies you can tell are going to be a disaster just from looking at the poster. Dreamworks Animation's movies look like cheap knockoffs of Pixar, and this movie looks like a cheap knockoff of Dreamworks Animation. − October 23, 2016 • more by Scott
