Evie Totty: “It was ok.”
Great film, not a repeat.
Not only did Olivia Coleman deserve her Oscar - Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz deserved their nominations.
I know so little about English history (apparently) that I'd never even heard of Queen Anne. I'm still not sure she even existed lol.
In this film, Anne was surrounded by sycophants (as royalty is) with Weisz's character being the one who not only tells her the truth, but she also drives policy that is good for the kingdom and its subjects. The bad part is that her cousin, played by Stone, comes in and 'wants what she wants'.
She causes so much trouble that you go from downright hating Weisz's character to hating Stone's. They did a wonderful job of making Stone sympathetic in the beginning. You literally rooted for her to get what she wanted. But when she did - she did not wield her power altruistically.
A very sad ending indeed.
Great film though. I definetely recommend seeing it.This review contains spoilers. Reveal it.
