Should government-owned wilderness areas be preserved? Is concern for a clean environment a dead issue today?

It's really hard these days though to get anyone fired up about the environment, when there are so many other problems out there. I don't know what the answer is.

Yes, they should be preserved.

I hope that in the coming years the protections for these things will be more respected. Right now, they aren't.

Everybody has the issues that matter to them. When I hitched my loyalty to the gay marriage issue, I knew that most people couldn't care less about it. It's important to establish a coalition of like-minded voters with whom you can exchange support for each other's causes, but I just can't seem to make myself care about the environment. What can I say? As an issue, it doesn't strongly affect me or anyone in my social circle, it doesn't dominate the news of our time, and most of the negative consequences from its neglect will come generations from now. I could easily say that protecting the environment is important for x y z reasons, and on an academic level of course I agree, but in my heart I just don't give a damn. :-|

My biggest issue with the environmental lobby is that a lot of the things people fight for is bullshit. Take "Global Warming" for example. There is no scientific proof of global warming, yet people make it out to be a huge issue. Most environmentalist have very little understanding of science and think they can use buzz words and make themselves sound more impressive by inventing ideas to help their own causes.

BTW, on a side note, on Stern this morning. He had 2 PETA activists take off their tops and kiss, so he wouldn't kill a lobster. I love Stern. Fucking hate PETA.
