Way back in 2000, I registered celebritygoogame.com and moved this site there. It was my very first dedicated domain. The site stayed there until 2006, when I registered goo.tc and moved the site to that address as part of a complete redesign. (It didn't become funeratic.com until 2010.) After the switch to goo.tc, I didn't bother to renew celebritygoogame.com and a squatter snatched it up as soon as it became available, which is pretty common in the web hosting world.
I made a couple of inquiries over the years into re-acquiring celebritygoogame.com, but the squatters wouldn't even talk to me unless my opening bid was over $1000. I'm sure they expected to be able to negotiate $10k or more as part of their clever scheme to snatch up a hot domain name as soon as it became available! The problem, of course, is that nobody on Earth has any use for the phrase "Celebrity Goo Game" other than me.
Eventually the squatters must have given up, because I recently noticed that the old domain was available again and I registered it for cheap. Going to celebritygoogame.com now redirects you to funeratic.com. It's far too late to have any impact on my SEO, but it feels good to be reunited, and for far less than $1000 too. :-)
