The New York Times has a neat story about Tibetan monks studying science at Emory University. It's a glimpse into how hierarchical their society is, as it seems the Dalai Lama had to order them to attend over their objections, but also at how a very different and religious culture would approach concepts like half-life from a philosophical perspective. I'm glad that the scientists at Emory are also learning from the monks and treating them with dignity, as (I believe) one of the things fueling anti-intellectualism is a perceived snobbiness among scientists for refusing to consider alternative ideas even worthy of discussion. This is a neat program and would make for a great book describing what happened in more detail.
