NASCAR All Star Race

I'm awfully tempted. Is the beer mandatory?
Steve Dunn | April 3, 2007
You may abstain from beer if: 1) it's against your religion; or 2) you are a recovering alcoholic. Otherwise, I'll have to insist that you choke down at least one Budweiser.
Make a weekend of it. We'll hit Speed Street downtown, which always features musicians that you thought were dead or definitely were at least retired (think Twisted Sister, Dio, Three Dog Night). And fried Snickers bars.
I don't follow NASCAR at all, but the fellowship and pageantry of the all star race is quite something to see. It's also nice because it's a short race, broken up into segments (ie, not as boring as a normal race) and it's at night (not unbearably hot). We go early... grill various animals... play a beanbag tossing game... and observe the humanity.
Quintessential redneckery. It's like going to Rio or Carnaval, or running with the bulls in Pamplona.

I have fond memories of a concert in Pittsburgh: Night Ranger, Slaughter, and Quiet Riot.
I would like to have fond memories of fried Snickers bars and tailgating at NASCAR.
I still won't drink beer, for reasons on par with the examples mentioned.
I'm in. I'll make the arrangements this weekend.

BRING IT!
Email me to iron out the details. I know my wife will be stoked to meet the guy behind the Goo Game.

Thanks, Lori.
Steve, I look forward to meeting the woman who married the man who played NFL Head Coach and didn't hang himself.

I know most of you are not NASCAR fans.
I also know most of you have no idea who I am.
I'll only say this.
If you've ever been curious about NASCAR and you can handle drinking beer and acting like a redneck (even if strictly as an anthropological experiment) I'm your man for the Nextel All Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte NC on May 19.
Let me know.
