I don't think it's a weird take on it *at all*.

I thought you were speaking more to the economic aspect being weird. But I can understand all motives equally... and even still, the guy was obviously quite deficient in coping skills. As usual, I maintain that there is much insight to be found among the "comments" -- the pain in the ass part is just skimming/weeding through the idiotic with nothing of use or substance to contribute. Among those with something worthwhile to say, the guy with the "Love Shy" talk is a bit of a standout (#46) with his references to personal experience and an out-of-print book from the eighties about these very gender/sex issues and a proposal of treatment... which is a hell of a lot more than you'll get from any mainstream media on *any* news with a social issue or stigma attached.

This is a futile question, but how did our country get to a point where walking into a building and shooting at strangers has become a seemingly commonplace method of suicide? We've always been a violent nation, but even in the lawless, gun-loving Old West, depressed people didn't just walk into a store and shoot random townsfolk, did they? I'm not as disturbed by the particulars of this lonely man's motive for the crime as I am that he was apparently not as alone as he thought.
