clue: On the face of it, he may have seemed like the luckiest man on Earth. But his record-setting streak of consecutive games while playing for his native New York was so famously interrupted by an incurable disease that it came to be called his.
explanation: Gehrig set a number of records in his career with the New York Yankees starting in 1923, including 2130 consecutive games. That streak was broken in 1939 when he took himself out of play due to physical difficulties that were subsequently diagnosed as ALS.
