Soulsville U.S.A.: Although it dabbled in jazz, blues, funk, and gospel, Memphis-based Stax Records is best known as one of the most important publishers of soul music in the business. From major stars like Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding who dominated the label, to their in-house band Booker T. & the M.G.'s that played on many records, to a new generation of soul singers recording on the recently-revived label today, this theme collects both artists signed to Stax and artists who recorded at Stax's famous studio.
