Brittany Runs a Marathon
Samir Mehta: “It ruled.”
It isn’t perfect, but fits solidly between “it was ok” and “it ruled”. The high is that the movie portrays (accurately, to my view) an under discussed and major part of life - how do we take a life in inertia, that isn’t matching our goals, and make a change? The movie isn’t truly about weight loss or even running - it’s about change itself. And it’s admirable for that.
After being relegated to great supporting roles for years, Jillian Bell is well cast as a dramatic lead. She leans well on her comic skills but shows unexpected depth in her first major leading role. The best choice? The movie doesn’t make her totally likeable. Brittany isn’t a perfect heroine - she is at times rude, scared, or clumsy. She’s human, though, and her story is with a watch.

Scott Hardie: More comedic actors should try drama. Comedy is so much more difficult to do well than drama that I think some would be really good at it. I'd pay good money to see Kate McKinnon play the lead in a straight drama. (She has a supporting role in Bombshell and is set to play the lead in The Dropout, so maybe her career is going that direction.) − December 30, 2019 more by Scott

Evie Totty: “It ruled.”
Honestly, Samir said it perfectly. She's definitely an inspiration. I need to get this movie poster so I see it every day for said inspiration.
