Friends of a certain age have given me a lot of grief for never having seen this -- what can I say? I was in high school by the time it came out -- so I decided to settle the matter. Sure enough, it's as good as its reputation, with stunning animation and strong emotion. I appreciated the dig at annoying Disney songs and other in-jokes. This is so bold and confident in its choices, and the approach pays off. I have a bad feeling about next year's CGI remake, but I doubt that it could retroactively tarnish this.
