Scott Hardie: “It sucked.”

This reminded me of the similarly frustrating What Dreams May Come: Very pretty CGI visions of the afterlife, but what a slow, tedious bore otherwise. The movie can't just make a point; it has to dwell on every scene long after we get the message.

Amy Austin: Hm. I really liked What Dreams May Come... and having read this book, I'm pretty curious to see a cinematic translation. − May 10, 2010 • more by Amy

Scott Hardie: The book sounds great. The movie hasn't diminished my interest in it at all. The problem with the movie (intolerably slow pacing, worse and worse as it goes on) is unique to the movie, and probably unique to Peter Jackson's interpretation, since he said that his goal was to evoke the feelings that the book gave him. I wish it would evoke another director to give it a shot someday. − May 13, 2010 • more by Scott
