The Place Beyond the Pines
Samir Mehta: “It sucked.”
I'm hard on this movie even though I liked it in stretches. On the whole, it simply had ambition to be something without knowing what it wanted to be. To say more is unfair (the movie depends heavily on massive twists) but I'll also note that one of the male leads (a teenager) is so terrible that he made me want to stop watching the movie altogether.

Scott Hardie: I'm surprised by this, as the movie received mostly good reviews and I thought it was a prestige 2013 title that slipped past me, but I'll take your word for it. − December 15, 2013 • more by Scott
