I know a few of us on this site are regulars of the Hollywood Stock Exchange for fun. If you are unfamiliar, its a game site that lets you trade fake Hollywood dollars (H$) on movie stocks. You make or lose money depending on the box office results of films.

Well, the creators of HSX are in the final stages of government approval to make it real (looking like April to go live). The Cantor Exchange. I've signed up for a practice account and am getting to know the system. They have a practice account bonus offer in which they'll give you $10 real dollars for every H$1,000 profit you earn in practice mode (when the site goes live).

I am initially excited about this concept because I've turned H$2 million into more than H$100 million over the last few years. I've often said how I wished that this was a real concept. However, I'm taking this really casually though as I don't want to end up with more than I bargained for when it goes live. I can see how this system could make or break fortunes for a lot of movie buffs out there. I'm sure there will also be a lot of initial fallback from media, etc if/when it actually goes live.

Shorting Tinseltown

Very interesting, thanks Amy. I'm certainly disappointed in the end of this exchange, especially the whole "signed into law" part. It's amazing to see the real pull Hollywood has on congress when it feels threatened.
