Heard any good new music lately?

My latest is a band called My Morning Jacket. I saw them on Austin City Limits (a great TiVo option for music fans).

They look like the Allman Brothers band and one of the dudes plays a pedal steel, so you think it's going to be all jangly and twangy. But it's not. One of the tunes sounds exactly like old-school U2, another is a garage bandy croos between Buddy Holly and the Clash. Lots of soaring vocals. They're classified as "alt country" but the new album (the only one I've heard) is a lot more "alt" than "country." Worth a listen.

I need to freshen my collection. What should I try?

Well something I sometimes do in this situation is go to epitonic.com and see what they recommend. :) (link) I have heard My Morning Jacket before because it was recommended based on other bands I liked, but I don't have any of their albums. If you enjoy that slightly alt-country type stuff you might like Mojave 3, Neil Halstead (from Mojave 3) and Sun Kil Moon. These may be my husband's recommendations because my own top choices are a bit too... wimpy... for most. I really like Jens Lekman lately, for instance.
