Japan for me too. I've always wanted to go. A friend of mine got to go for a graduate conference thing, and I was wicked jealous.

Hawaii, or more specifically Maui. There's a small, secluded beach that I was fortunate to see many years ago that I've vowed to myself to return to someday. It's on the far side of Maui (far from the airport I mean) in Hana. It's not exactly easily accessible. You have to skirt around the outside of a mountainous cinder cone (old, dried, extinct remains of a lava eruption) on a barely discernible trail, and then climb down the inside of the cone where the outside third of the cone has collapsed int the sea. The sand is formed by the eroding insides of the cone and is colored red. There is a breakwater in the lagoon it forms that the waves crash against about thirty feet from shore making a spectacular all day/every day show yet the water between the shore and the breakwater is calm, allowing good swimming. It's the most beautiful geography I've personally ever seen.

If you were awarded an expense paid trip to any one place in the world, where would you go? Why?
