I've done so several times, but only once when I had been a long-time employee and really tried to make a go of a long career there (ten years). For me the choice was easy: I had done just about everything there was to do in the old job and my skills weren't growing, and I had not gotten over some painful experiences (downsizing, etc) that soured me on the company, so there was little keeping me there but inertia and a few nice people on my team. I had no doubt that it was time to move on. There are very few employers in this town for my kind of job, so I was pleasured to pursue the opportunity when it presented itself, and the new job has turned out to be better in almost every way. I've been there for two years now and hope to stay for plenty more.

Starting over is inherently stressful, but it's worth it for a good job. During the first few months, there were a few anxious or frustrating moments when I longed to go back to the boring easy job that I used to have, the one where I knew how to do everything. Once I learned the ropes, that feeling never returned. I do miss certain coworkers (espirit de corps was one of the few really good things at my previous employer), but Facebook and occasional lunches out have kept me in touch with most all of them. I felt a little bad for the guy stuck taking my place because a big project was coming up, but it wasn't my problem, and from what I heard, things turned out fine.

Samir I haven't done it......But if its for better for ya I say do it but if it's not then I say stay until something a little better comes along. A change in jobs is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it's a good thing. But you can only make that decision for yourself and hear advice from your friends and see what they have to say about switching jobs.

In the end, you really have to set aside your feelings about other people and do what's best for you. It's ok to feel bad about making the right choice. Samir, I hope you'll let us know how it goes. Good luck.
