Samir Mehta: “It was ok.”

I WANTED to like this so much. Take a childhood favorite book and two of my favorite actors (Chastain and Hader) that both felt perfectly cast and a pretty decent cast otherwise. What could go wrong? Somehow, it doesn't land right. Why does It Chapter Two fail? I think it's two things: 1. The way they handled the ending (Ritutal of Chud, etc.) was visually wrong and dumb. I don't object to departing from the book but this did not work. 2. They did not really sell the dread the characters should be feeling; the inevitable fear of It.

It was good, but it should have been great.

Scott Hardie: Yeah, judging from the ads (I didn't see the movie), the adults never looked truly frightened. Isn't that It's whole deal, scaring people with whatever frightens them most? Doesn't he symbolically represent fear itself?

Samir, for you, how does this new version compare to the original TV movie? − December 21, 2019 • more by Scott
