Scott Hardie: “It was ok.”
This is fun but the very definition of inessential. Rumor has it that James Gunn pestered Kevin Feige for years to green-light this, and you can see why, given the golden concept of the team kidnapping Kevin Bacon to cheer up Star-Lord. As nice as it is to spend more time with the least developed characters in the group, Mantis and Drax sadly come off like morons here, not understanding simple concepts like that Bacon wouldn't appreciate his home being invaded. The connection that Mantis and Star-Lord make at the end is sweet, but I think the best Christmas gift of all is that Drax finally put a shirt on. I appreciated the many MCU and pop-culture references; I noticed perhaps a dozen and there must be many more. This review contains spoilers. Reveal it.

Matthew Preston: Agreed on all fronts here. I didn't time the musical numbers throughout, but I'd guess a good 10 minutes of screen time was just bands performing.
I noticed right away that Drax had a shirt on. The only time I know of him willingly wearing one previously was at Tony Stark's funeral. Maybe Dave Bautista was out of Drax shape or something?
I wonder how much alcohol they consumed at the beginning. Although they don't necessarily have to go hand in hand, I'd like to think that a species that's impervious to gunshots, would likely have a higher than human constitution. That being said, when was the last time we saw earth guns being fired in the MCU?This reply contains spoilers. Reveal it. − December 5, 2022 more by Matthew

Scott Hardie: Good points! Maybe Drax wearing the long-sleeved shirt was done to spare Dave Bautista some time in the makeup chair? − December 5, 2022 more by Scott
