The Muppet Christmas Carol

Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”
I can see why this movie's reputation has gradually improved with time, particularly with the recent restoration of the cut song "When Love is Gone" which might have been the best in the movie. It goes out of its way to quote Dickens's original language and is the only Christmas Carol adaptation to preserve certain characters and details from the book, which is kind of remarkable for a movie that stars singing puppets. Michael Caine's performance is critical, shading Scrooge's misanthropy with loneliness rather than hatred. My only gripe is the constant dumb interruptions by Rizzo the Rat, but even those lead to a few good sight gags.

Erik Bates: I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this, mostly because (blasphemy!) I really don’t like the source material.
But I love the Muppets.
It’s a conundrum. − March 9, 2025 more by Erik
Scott Hardie: The Muppets can improve a lot of things. The Muppets Kill Bill maybe shouldn't exist, but given that they're owned by Disney, I'm kind of shocked that a proper Muppet Star Wars or Muppet Avengers movie hasn't been produced for Disney+ yet. − March 9, 2025 more by Scott
