Not that anyone who knows me would doubt it, but I'll take a moment on National Coming Out Day to declare myself an ally of my LGBT friends. It matters because it's still difficult for many of them to be public with who they are: Someone came out privately to Kelly today, still unable to say it publicly because many members of that person's conservative family might turn on them. I wish that person and everyone else happiness, liberty, and safety.

That said, it feels strange to "come out" as an ally, because many if not most people are already sympathetic to the cause these days. I would venture that most people on this site are LGBT allies. So I wonder... Not to make light of the occasion, but do you have something else you'd like to come out about today, something less serious?

I have my own confession to make. It's hard for me to say this because many people in my nerd community have traditional values and would disown me if they knew, but the truth is: I don't like Monty Python. I just don't find it appealing whenever I hear it quoted around me. It doesn't turn me on. I'm attracted to other forms of comedy. There, I said it. I hope I have your support.

I didn't get Rocky Horror, I thought 30something was only so-so, and, dare I say it, I thought Johnny Carson blew dead bear.

Kelly loathes Garrison Keillor too, for the writing and the voice. He's more polarizing than I would have guessed.

Steve, regarding Rocky Horror, do you not get the appeal of the film itself, or of the enduring midnight-movie circuit that continues to this day, or both? I would never go to the latter, which twenty years ago devolved into a hundred people shouting different things at once instead of in unison, and which seems like an unbearable experience.

Not judging here. I support your right to be with whatever entertainment you want to be with.

I like it fine. It's no masterpiece, but it's fun.
