I also hate the loss of control of the remote to the disk. That gives me reason to not buy the DVD. I'm to the point where if I really, really, really want the DVD, I'll buy it, otherwise, I borrow/rent all of the DVDs I want to see.
So guess what studios, who complain about piracy, you're not getting all my money either. Course, I'm not stealling their movies, but I'm not buying them either, just taking them on loan.

What is your biggest pet peeve about DVDs?
I have almost as many of them as I have of DVDs, but lately I've been getting increasingly frustrated by my remote control being deactivated during the copyright warnings and legal disclaimers, so that I can't press stop or skip to the next chapter or go right to the menu. Thanks, but I really don't need to be forced every time to read that le studio n'est pas responsable des avis dans les commentaires. Forcing me to watch piracy warnings on a disc I bought legitimately is mildly insulting.
I've heard that Disney deactivates the remote during the entire span of coming attractions on such DVDs as "National Treasure" (though I have yet to experience this phenomenon myself). That's just obscene. What next? Lame-ass Coke commercials with NASCAR drivers like in the theatrical preshow?
I don't know if it's possible to find such a thing, but I'm curious to know if there's a DVD player out there that refuses to let discs override the remote control. That's a marketable feature in my book.
