It's kind of nerdy, but I liked this article about a triumph of artistry over algorithms in the realm of cartography. We get justifiably carried away with technological marvels in seemingly every arena these days, so it's easy to forget just how good at things we humans can be when we put our minds to it.

Yeah I miss the good maps I used to see when I was in the Navy....granted I couldn't have ever owned most of them (classified) but the level of detail and thought that went into them was amazing....of course the service is also switching to digital maps but unlike civilian maps they aren't loosing detail but rather overlaying a lot of detail that can be turned on and off depending on the need

If it were folded up inside my car, I don't think I would use Imus's map very much. He chooses to list attractions in a city, away from their actual location, rather than using the space to indicate the positions of neighboring cities that I might actually be trying to locate? But this isn't really that kind of map, and I can appreciate it for the artistry that went into it.
