I saw Any Given Sunday again last night. Such a fun movie. It reminds me of 300: I don't much dig either film's warrior ethos, but I do appreciate their willingness to go over the top and then some in the name of entertainment. Cameron Diaz isn't quite right for her role (she tries to make the team owner sympathetic when the woman should be ruthless), but this was the same year as Being John Malkovich and I applaud her taking chances. Besides Diaz, the twenty-seven other lead actors are fine. The flashy editing and the hyper-masculinity (NSFW) are the real stars anyway.

What are your favorite sports movies?

Any given Sunday is fantastic. I don't even like American Football and I'd have it on my list.

But I think my favorite ever is the Damned United.

I also love Raging Bull.

Raging Bull was pretty damned good. I'm a sucker for The Natural.

I don't much like Boondock Saints either, but it is yet another movie that I salute for going to extremes stylistically. Come to think of it, I'd like to see a Baz Luhrmann-directed sports movie, or maybe I should just watch Strictly Ballroom again because it sort of is one.

Within the last few years, Miracle and Seabiscuit were pretty good.

Damn, Samir, good call! How the hell could I forget Caddyshack? I'm a failure.
