What's the most expensive item ever lost or stolen from you? What was the most meaningful? What do you lose or destroy chronically?

I lost or had stolen my purse and my chemistry textbook within a month of each other one time in college. I was very distressed at the time. I permanently lost a whole ring full of keys one time. I chronically lose mittens and sunglasses, I chronically destroy cheap watches, shoes, and sunglasses... I am very prone to losing things I guess!!

I misplaced a #150 paycheck from a part-time summer job in high school once, and found it months later, well after it had expired and couldn't be deposited or cashed. Finding it was really much worse than losing it.

My boyfriend has lost his debit card this summer TWICE. If he loses it again, I'm going to beat him. =)

I know I started the thing about having to give away my cat, but this discussion is too depressing to leave a comment. ;-)
