Seriously?

Okay, so apparently there is a lack of clarity on the exact reason for it. And I thought I was going to have to issue an apology when I saw link #3 here -- but then I read the silly crap. I guess it's pretty innocuous after all... but then, I think these things (franchise re-imaging/marketing... name changes) are pretty stupid anyway.

As I recall, it had to do with a makeover of the team that included uniform changes, trying to put their reputation for losing behind them. So far it hasn't worked.
I'm a little more bothered that "Bay" was dropped, since the "Tampa Rays" play in St. Petersburg. Then again, the St. Pete Times Forum is in downtown Tampa.

My mistake; the "Bay" has not been dropped.

Okay... so I don't keep up with sports in general or baseball in particular -- this might be old news to many.
But seriously? The Tampa Devil Rays are now just the Tampa Rays??? Since when? And why? (yeah, I can Google it, and I will...)
I guess it's just more of that liberal PC nonsense, right? Right??? Right.
