So, who's finished? I read the whole thing in about 10 hours.

Geeze, you guys are slow..... hurry up, i want people to discuss with.

Scott Hardie | July 24, 2007
I read the whole Wikipedia article in about 10 minutes. I'm ready to discuss.

You can safely spoil here, or here. Authors who don't want spoilers can stay out.

I feel the movies leave a lot out of the books. In this series, you really do yourself a disfavor by not reading, and only watching the movies.

I felt the way the story ended was good. It was pretty much what I thought would happen, in terms of who died and how they did. However, I hated the epilogue. It was written as if Jo didn't want to write it, but did it because she felt the fans would not be happy unless she did.

I personally thought there was way to much graphic sex for a children's book

Don't forget Ginny has 5 brothers to name for people in her family. I didn't feel there was closure with Malfoy, and that his father should have gotten killed, but oh well.

I borrowed my mom's copy on Tuesday and finally finished it just now. Much as I hate to be trendy I have to say I was really excited to read this one. I am glad you guys agree about the epilogue. I found it kind of sappy and annoying. Overall though I really enjoyed the book. I was hoping they would do something with the whole thing about Harry and Neville having the same birthdays and the prophecy about someone born on that day killing Voldemort. Well they didn't really do that but at least Neville did something important by killing the snake. Also I was kind of wondering why they felt the need to wear the amulet around their necks when it caused them so much trouble. Why didn't they just keep it in Hermione's purse? And wouldn't it have been handy if the time-turning watch from an earlier book could have been used for something important in later books? I guess that just would have made things too easy.

well I was happy with the book, though not that the series is now over. I started book 6 of the Dresden Files this morning....a different kind of wizard...just to keep my mind occupied. The epilogue was just enough to let us know what happened to the main folks without getting to in depth I look forward to the Potter Encyclopedia and my bet on the next book/series/spin off will be about Ted Tonks.

Oh neat, so anything we write in this discussion will be hidden, YTMND, Scott!!!

I was kidding about the sex stuff. Just wanted to see people's reactions. Overall though, I'm very happy with the book. I want mine back so I can read it again slower. I think the most amazing thing about this book is that I've never seen a book that has broaden the age gap so much, and I love that it is getting kids to read, and away from the TV... well, at least until the movie comes out.

epilogue.....my opinion about it has changed a bit after rereading the last couple of chapters....It really reads like a screenplay for the last 5 minutes of the 7th movie...not necessarily a bad thing just not in keeping with the rest of book 7 or for that mater the rest of the books but certainly not bad

I haven't heard anything about an encyclopedia. What's the info on that?

Mike Eberhart | July 30, 2007
Back to the book, I finished book 7 while I was on vacation. Took me about 5 days of reading for about 2 hours at a time. I thought the first half of the book was pretty slow. I could really do without all the discussion about the wedding plans. Just seemed to take away from the real story. Then the middle chapters where they were out looking for the horcruxes. Just didn't really seem to go anywhere. The last third of the book is where it finally started to get good for me. Overall, I would give the book about an 8 out of 10.

Thanks, looks like it will be pretty interesting. Probably going to have to pick that up if she actually writes it.
