Seriously! Am I retarded, or am I just not getting the theme of this week?! >:(

Amy, don't even respond!

Lori, don't respond for Amy!

Russ Wilhelm | September 22, 2007
I don't know how much help I can be, Aaron. Have you read what the theme is about? If so, do you know what is confusing you?

Aaron Shurtleff | September 22, 2007
Well, no, I get the theme, it's not that, but I think I'm just coming up with the wrong thing almost every time! :)

Amy Austin | September 22, 2007
heeheehee...

Can I respond for Lori then???

Amy Austin | September 22, 2007
Okay then!

Aaron... Lori says not retarded, just baka: top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right & right to left. Since you also speak anime, I'm guessing that you understand this. >;-[)

Aaron Shurtleff | September 22, 2007
No no no! Responding for Lori is still responding!

And my anime-speak is that of a one year old, rather than a two year old... :P

And it's no sense thinking about it now, I've already flubbed my guesses. :(

Scott Hardie | September 23, 2007
Aaron, seems like you just wound up with a string of bad guesses. It was a tough week. If it's any consolation, the names that you guessed were also guessed by numerous other players.

Ohhhh... I thought it meant a little phyllo dough pastry with pistachios and/or almonds...

(jk... I did get it. ;-p)

Yeah, I've got 2 ideas that kind of match the goo that resembles a baseball player, I'm pretty sure neither of them is right though.

Jason Evans | September 24, 2007
I really liked this week -- I got at least one of the Goos because I just focussed on the fact that it had to be based on a famous quote. Without that theme, there is no way I would have gotten it.

Aaron Shurtleff | September 27, 2007
OK, now I can see the Elvis quote...kinda. But I can honestly say that I have never in my life heard the phrase "Katy bar the door". Ever. At all. Apparently I live a sheltered life, in addition to being a moron.

Denise Sawicki | September 27, 2007
I don't think I ever heard it either.. Somehow I got the idea to google the term "bar the door" and that led me to the answer. At least you are smart enough to know that 0+6=6 without thinking about it for like half an hour though! geez. I think I better go crawl in a hole and die.

Amy Austin | September 27, 2007
If you're talking about Decades, Denise... don't feel bad -- it makes me stupid, too.

Denise Sawicki | September 27, 2007
Maybe, but I'm learning I'm "secretly" very arrogant or else I would have thought a little bit before actually posting a question...

Amy Austin | September 27, 2007
Though it is definitely true that there is a strange "secret" relationship between the two... I wouldn't worry so much -- I think your self-deprecation beats the hell out of your "arrogance", Denise. ;-)

Aaron Shurtleff | September 27, 2007
Actually, no, I had no idea what the problem was until you explained it in your match... I actually thought you had made a mistake when you thought you figured it out, much the moron I am...

Denise Sawicki | September 27, 2007
OK let's agree that nobody's stupid or a moron *group hug* ha ha ha... Also, sorry for changing the topic.

Amy Austin | September 27, 2007
Can Aaron just be a dumbhead then? (Okay... *hug*)

Denise Sawicki | September 28, 2007
Back on topic then... My two wrong guesses for the baseball goo were Leo Durocher who said "Nice guys finish last" and Tug McGraw who said "You gotta believe". Of course the former was not a pitcher and the latter would have been cross-listed as family and neither one actually looks like the real guy but otherwise the clue kinda fits, right, kinda?

Aaron Shurtleff | September 28, 2007
I actually got fooled by the reversed picture... :( No wonder I couldn't find any RHP's that said anything remotely quote-worthy! The Yankees logo being reversed wasn't obvious to me (I'm not complaining...I didn't look closely enough). I went with Dizzy Dean, because he seemed to have said so many weird or odd things that maybe I just hadn't found the quote. I had to match the picture, then find the quote for this whole week, I think. I think my problem with this week is that I just never could figure out the right quotes, except for the Elvis quote, which I missed because I assumed the first person to say it was the person I was looking for (and I did notice that the picture didn't match, but I thought I just couldn't find the right picture...)

I don't think I'll get the Olympian either. I'll go out on a limb and say that that is going to be another quote I've never heard. I'm stumped, both on the quote, and on who that could be. That said, tomorrow I'll look and it'll be the most common quote in the world. ;)

And I'm not ignoring the group hug, I'm just not a participator. My personal space is very large, huge! I appreciate the thought, though!

Denise Sawicki | September 28, 2007
I'm blind or something because at that distance the Yankees Logo might just as well be the Mets logo from Tug McGraw's Wikipedia page, in my eyes... We can add blind to my list of deficits. And yeah, I have huge personal space myself, just goofing around trying to de-embarrass myself but it doesn't work does it?!

Aaron Shurtleff | September 28, 2007
Not at all! Humor is a great way to defuse tension. I guess I just have a bad sense of humor...

You know what? Let's just agree to be flawed individuals, who are awesome and special in our own weird ways, and stop this my-flaws-are-worse-than-yours competition!

Although, my flaws... ;)

Michael Paul Cote | September 28, 2007
Aaron, I didn't do well with this theme either. So we can be morons together.

Aaron Shurtleff | September 28, 2007
Eh. I'm mostly over it. I've got 40 out of 50 GOOs right this round. That 80%. I can live with that. Plus, I got a Master-rated GOO by Lori Lancaster, so that's a feather in my cap!

Of course, now everyone will get that GOO, and they'll say it's not really a Master rated GOO, and then Lori will say that it's not her GOO, but something her daughter came up with, and I'll be back to the sadness... ;)

EDIT: My bad. There's one more, plus one pending (which I am 98% sure is wrong), so I could be as high as 42 out of 50, or 84%. I still have to deal with the off-and-on arch-nemesis in round one of the final tournament (I'm guessing...we need to ratchet up the smack talk again!).

Amy Austin | September 28, 2007
Heheh... where is Steve Dunn these days, anyway?

And man, Aaron... your "space" is too huge for even a cyber-hug?!? Geez... I guess I'll just have hug myself then, since everyone else is gonna' be all shy & weenie about it! ;-p

Aaron Shurtleff | September 28, 2007
I think so...it's either Steve or JoJo, depending on the breakdown.

Interesting note: If it is JoJo that I see in round 1, it could have been Lori. :)

Yeah, I have issues... Do I get to try to win back Fleetwood Mac at some point? ;)

Scott Hardie | September 28, 2007
The reversed Yankees logo is hard to see in the goo as it is displayed on the page at 300x300. It's easier if you click "full image" to see it at 360x360. But I wasn't going to write that in the clue. :-\

Aaron Shurtleff | September 28, 2007
Yeah, like I said, I didn't really look closely enough. My complaining is 98% cry for attention anyways! :)
