A friend of mine was a research assistant/gopher as a part-time job while we attended graduate school. The job was with a research scientist at the Department of Agriculture's research center in Beltsville, MD. This particular scientist was constantly publishing in appropriate research journals and because she liked the way my friend tirelessly washed the test tubes, listed him as a co-author (he was 7th on a list of 7 co-authors) on one minor, yet published, research paper. Since then, he refers to himself as a published author - which is technically true, I suppose, but he conveniently neglects to detail his contribution to the research.

I hate when people are all self-important. The world doesn't care, dude.
