Well, typically, the less light around you when you glance up at the stars, the more you are likely to see, so the outages in combination with the moonless night would be the most likely explanation, I would think. Of course, I don't know if there was more than that going on or not.

having a front roll through and clean out all the atmospheric garbage probably helped too...
One thing I will miss when I retire next year is the amazing night sky visible then you are 1000 miles from any land
