Scott Hardie: “It was ok.”

I was afraid that the trailer had spoiled the plot; instead, it had spoiled the few good jokes in the movie. This is a pretty dull comedy, lacking Tina Fey's usual sharpness, I'm guessing because she's merely the star and not the writer, and because it hewed too closely to the original dramatic book instead of being punched up with more wit. But some of the lines sound like they were meant to be jokes and the actors said them seriously, especially Paul Rudd. Strange. I don't recommend this at all; it's minor and generic and never really gets moving.

Evie Totty: Yeah I was steering clear of this because I simply didn't like how it was being presented to me in the trailers. It didn't seem to know what it was. At first it was a comedy then - holy shit! - it's a drama.

Samir Mehta: “It ruled.”

Excellent, underrated. A great understated performance from Tina Fey and a solid drama on the whole.

Scott Hardie: Perhaps I would have liked this more if I had expected it to be a drama. And if the trailer had not spoiled most of it. − December 11, 2013 • more by Scott
