Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”
This made-for-Netflix film isn't just a branching-narrative movie (don't call it "choose your own adventure"), it's a movie about branching narratives in fiction, as the main character struggles to wrap his head around one as he creates it. And this seems to want to be the most meta movie ever produced; I don't recall a single shot or spoken line that didn't resonate on multiple levels. So it's exceedingly clever, but is it entertaining? As long as you allow for the usual downbeat and ominous tone of Black Mirror, sure. It helps if you have a love for meta-fiction, because this movie doesn't really have much of a point to make; it's content to be a really thorough exploration of the possibilities of branching narratives.
