Scott Hardie: “It ruled.”

This charming little animated film has been on my radar for a while now. I saw it on Christmas Eve and enjoyed it, but I couldn't tell you how well it would play in, say, April. The animation is an impressive blend of traditional hand-drawn and CGI effects. The art design is superb. I really felt sympathetic to the characters and the movie's genial warmth and sense of humor. Besides the inane pop songs that are de rigueur for family movies, my only real quibble is its reliance on the old trope of the hero who has to maintain a big lie through the whole movie because the third act depends on it. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this and certainly recommend it, even for adult audiences.
