Yesterday's Literature goo created a number of problems. I couldn't find an image of the two women together (or even a decent pair of separate portraits that I could combine in Photoshop), and I didn't want to leave them out of the theme because, as far as I was taught, they're among the most famous mother-daughter pairs in history. So, I opted for a photo of two non-famous actors from a local (high school?) theater group playing the pair.

Problem #1: Some players guessed the actors.

Problem #2: In some places online, the photo is labeled as the actors playing famous mother and famous daughter. In other places online, the photo is labeled as the actors playing famous daughter and not-so-famous other daughter. Some players guessed the latter pair.

What a mess. I have turned to the Advanced Rules, and have interpreted the rule where "the source image that was used to create the goo is of the wrong person" as applying to this unusual situation. Thus, I have disallowed all guesses related to the above two problems and allowed the players to re-guess. My apologies for a bad choice of source photo.

We haven't had many goos with multiple answers, and I intend to keep it that way. But when we have, I've noticed that the number of alternate spellings goes way up. Do you combine the names with "and" or an ampersand or a comma? If they have the same last name, do you say it for both people? Which person is named first? Those questions alone create twelve possible variations, and there are more.

Naturally, I'll mark every variant spelling correct when I see it, so it's not going to affect your standing. But if you'd prefer to be marked correct right from the start, the "official" answers in this theme are spelled like "MotherFirst MotherLast and DaughterFirst DaughterLast," as in "Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton." Stick to that format and you should be right immediately, unless you have a typo or other variant (like Hillary Rodham Clinton).

Speaking of the Clintons, I considered including them, as I wanted a variety of categories. (I could probably make an entire month of mother-daughter goos if I was content to stick with Movies and Television.) But in my opinion, Chelsea so far hasn't stepped out of her parents' fame: Everything you've ever heard of her doing has only been reported because of her famous parents. I specifically wanted daughters who were accomplished in their own right, and furthermore, I wanted mother-daughter pairs who were famous in the same field, and Chelsea has yet to enter politics. Maybe if she runs for office in a decade or two, we can revisit this theme. :-P
