(Call me ignorant, but I actually thought he was already departed... I mean, he *was* 90!)

Sad, but at least he lived a long, full and prosperous life. (Yes, I included "full" so that there was no mistaking my intentions in that statement...)

The death announcement that most saddened me today was Anthony Minghella's. As director, writer, producer, or just industry mover-and-shaker, he has been behind some great movies in the last decade: The English Patient, Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Michael Clayton, The Interpreter, Atonement, The Quiet American, Maléna, Iris, Bee Season... This guy had a lot more great movies left to make.

And doubly sad in the unexpected nature and his young age -- it's always a shame to see someone go suddenly and in their prime.

There was no headline, "Arthur C.Clarke goes on his final odyssey" Though, 2001 may be a cinematic masterpiece, but it is also one of the most boring movies ever made!
