Forgive me if I am mistaken, but I don't even think that the persons that the funerals are for are necessarily of a different orientation, are they? These guys are "idjits". >:(

Kelly just watched a documentary about the Phelps group, and we talked about it at length. It seems that everything that you need to know about them comes down to three things:

1) They are utterly dominated by Fred. Everything they say and believe and do is driven by him. When he dies, the group will go on for a while on the memory of his forceful personality, but will gradually disappear. The children being raised in this family will never have normal lives.

2) Fred is insane. As Samir said, he used to be an attorney, until the law turned against him, and since then he has used his knowledge of the law to get away with being as outrageous as possible without committing an actual crime. Although there is a rational basis for how they conduct their protests, there isn't one for the hateful beliefs they espouse.

3) They are publicity whores. They go to such extremes merely to get attention. They don't know how to stop. They're addicted to the controversy and the publicity. Fred's death or incapacitation is the only thing that will bring an end to what they do.

I don't think that his death will end it, it may go on longer.
