Every time I see a Hummer, I want to spit on it.

If there's one thing this country needs right now, it's something even less fuel-efficient than an SUV.
Thanks, Hummer owners, it's not like anyone needs to be able to afford gas.

Personally, I want a Hummer. Not one of the new H2's, I want an original H1. The one's that are actually built by AMC. The new H2's are built on the Chevy Tahoe chassis, and the body is basically fiberglass. It may look like a Humvee, but it's really a Chevy truck.
Also, the truck I have now gets about the same gas mileage as a Hummer, so what's the big deal.
Anna Gregoline | July 27, 2004
So, you want a fake Hummer?
The deal is not big for you, as you already have a gas guzzling truck. Other people realize the poor impact and pathetic gas mileage (I for one couldn't even afford it, even if I agreed with it), and choose other vehicles.
Mike Eberhart | July 27, 2004
No, I don't want a fake Hummer. I said that all the H2's running around that everyone is buying are fake Hummers. If I were to get a Hummer, I would want an original that was built by AMC and not GMC. The old hummers are known as H1's and they are built to military specs. The new ones are built on a Chevy Tahoe chassis and aren't built to military specs.

Ah. They're all way too big and stupid, in my opinion. I've never understood having a car/truck that big, there are very few legitimate reasons for having one. I think it's a sad symbol of Americans trying to be the biggest at everything.
Plus, they're extremely dangerous for other drivers.
Mike Eberhart | July 27, 2004
I don't see how they are dangerous for other drivers. The top speed in them isn't very fast, and they are easy to notice. I don't know what's dangerous about them. Also, the H1's came in diesel, so they are a little more fuel efficient.
Anna Gregoline | July 27, 2004
They are very dangerous to other drivers because of visibility problems - I myself have been in cars where we couldn't see around big trucks and Hummers and it's not safe. Also, giant trucks tend to drive over small cars when they hit them.

Well, first question, Living in Illinois, you can imagine it's not that rough. But I do like to go camping in southern missouri where there is rough roads, and hills.
Second question, The appeal to me is probably from my military background. I've always like Humvee's and I would like to have one. That's pretty much it. I don't see it ever happening though because of the cost involved. But it would be nice.

That won't be a problem, the freaking H2's are ugly. They don't even look like humvee's anymore. They actually look like a Jeep cherokee on steroids. And actually, I wanted and H1 before the "trendy" H2's came out and everyone was getting them.
Just checkout any real Hummer dealership. The original H1's still sell for almost double what a new H2 costs. The H2 was designed for the trendy crowd.
Anna Gregoline | July 27, 2004
Sounds like it was designed for people who couldn't afford an H1.
Regardless, I hope the trend dies soon, as they are just awful.
Mike Eberhart | July 27, 2004
No, what happened was that Hummer, which was built by AM General, sold it's line to GMC. There wasn't anything like an H2 until GMC bought them. Now that GMC has it, they created the stripped down version of the H1 and made it look fancier. The original H1's are more expensive because they still come with all the bells and whistles and actually are built to withstand whatever you can do to it.
All the H2 is is just another SUV by the major motor corporations. It's no different than the Chevy Blazer, the Chevy Tahoe, the Ford Explorer, the Ford Expedition, etc... It's just larger in size. That's it.

The manly part of me wants to drive a Hummer, and honk and cut people off and swell my chest with pride. But the girly part of me is scared to back out of a parking space with it.

Every time I see a Hummer stretch limousine, it reminds me of those black t-shirts with tuxedos printed on them.
