What do you think of the current movement to Defund the Police -- or even to Abolish the Police?

I don't want to see anything rushed into -- that's a recipe for things not going well -- but in general I think the idea is worth developing. I just wish it had a better name! The phrase "defund the police" not only misses the point; it sounds downright scary to anyone out there lacking context.

There is a dangerous persecution complex among police right now. I've heard jokes about it, like how does it feel after police had their boots on certain members of society for so long, but I don't feel like joking. I worry that it portends more escalation to come.
