It's been a while since we shared some video links. Seen anything funny lately?

Buffy vs. Edward takes time to rev up but is worth the wait.

Undercover Karaoke with Jewel isn't funny exactly, but I enjoyed it anyway.

I'm often led down the many rabbit-holes of the intertubes whenever someone posts something silly. The last time this happened was when Matt posted... the saddest IMDB page ever? Can't find it, though -- are all the oddities still floating around somewhere, or no? Anyway... just remember... you asked...

Swoop, there it is...

I'm gonna' hazard a guess here and presume this NSF(most people's)W.

I confess that I don't quite get the appeal of the double rainbow guy. Yeah, he's floored by a mere double rainbow. What is so funny about it? Are we so jaded that we find honest feelings hilarious, and a double rainbow commonplace? Mostly I just feel sorry for the guy; what seems like a private video intended for friends or family has became the laughingstock of the Internet.

I don't know. I watched it (not hilarious, but oddly ecstatic... and good for him that it was), and then I watched the "interview" with him (CNN... do you believe?). Without making snap judgments about his appearance (kind of like if Ron Jeremy became a hippie deadhead), he kinda' lost me at "I mean, I always did kinda' expect that I was gonna' go viral"... which makes me question 1) Scott's assessment that it seemed meant to be a private video, and worse 2) the sincerity of his overwrought ecstasy. I think, personally, if I had a moment that profound with nature -- and meant it -- that I would be a) reluctant to put that anywhere public at all, and b) pissed if I became a "laughingstock of the Internet", as you put it. Something about the way he talks about it just rather ruins his credibility for me and the idea that it was a real bona fide "moment" as came across on video. If it was, though... good for him. I think it's generally true that people aren't so open to feeling that kind of awe and humility in the presence of some of nature's wonders. Twin rainbows may not be all that uncommon, but... I would hope that to see one of that magnitude and majesty in a setting like Yosemite (one of the cross-country stops that I unfortunately missed out on) would give anyone cause to seriously pause and reflect. I felt similarly when I saw Meteor Crater in Arizona and when I finally did get to see the Grand Canyon. But I think there would have to be a lot else going on to make me exclaim so much on video (*especially* if anyone else was around, which I'm glad that at least there wasn't in his vid)... like: drugs... other seriously emotional happenings in my life (almost a given these days), or... drugs. Just my opinion.

Scott Hardie | July 21, 2010
I can see having that kind of reaction, too, Amy, even though I probably wouldn't vocalize it like he did either. I'm a little disappointed by his implication that it was all on purpose, because it drags this into the realm of two of the saddest trends about Internet memes like this (besides trolling, which is even more sad), when either the whole thing turns out to be a lie, or everybody assumes that it's a lie because so many things these days turn out to be lies. That just leads to more snarkiness, because it trains us not to take anything seriously. I guess I'd rather live in a culture where we're cognizant of lies, but I think we've damaged our ability to process sincerity. Anyway, I'm pretty sick and loopy today, so I hope I'm making sense. Maybe I should go look at some rainbows myself.

Back on topic: I liked the part where the dog said "Batman."

Dot Dot Dot: "In an age where the anonymous reviewer is held to no general standard of grammar or spelling, an unintelligible trolling rant is a common and often eye-rolling occurrence. And when a game is meant as a parody of its genre, and a player playing it doesn't quite get the joke ... well, magic happens."

The Obama administration created a movie parody for presentation at the White House Correspondents Dinner last weekend. It's a great idea, but it never quite takes off. Maybe if Obama and Biden had re-enacted the cursing scene or the rolling-around-on-the-floor scene if might have turned out differently, I don't know. Obama has time to appear on every show on television; I'm sure he could spare an hour to film something original for this.

Once upon a time, the Clinton administration knew how to make a funny video.

Floridians are crazy, but not like that. The closest thing to actual elevation around here is Space Mountain. I'm from Chicago, so I'm just not familiar with hills that go on and on and on. I was impressed by the stunt racing in the video, but also enamored of the terrain.

Jon Berry | June 13, 2011
Hahahaha, yeah, same. I mean, Valparaiso is a good 2 hours by car from the capital, but its all slopes and hills, all the way to the sea.

Plus... that guy can bike. When the dog came out, I was somewhat concerned for both their health.

If it's possible for a music video to scramble your brain, PONPONPON could probably do it. Psychedelic art tries to simulate an acid trip, but I don't think this video is intended to represent any conceivable human experience.

Scott Hardie | September 23, 2011
The Artist has the best trailer I've seen in a long time. Coming out this winter with a lot of Oscar buzz already, it's set in the era of silent movies, and in that spirit, the entire film has no dialogue. But the trailer tells a complete and compelling story without words, so I'm intrigued to see whether or not the whole film can be done this well.

In our tweet-based, instant-gratification culture, when videos like this run too long, the mass public interest in the long, slow, and heavy KONY 2012 video (do I really need to link to it?) is kind of unbelievable.

Will The Real Mitt Romney Please Stand Up? I don't normally go for this sort of parody, but as several friends (hi Anna) have pointed out, this particular video is well done, especially in the lyrics. Someone Hugh Atkin went the extra mile on this.

One of the strangest things I saw at a Marilyn Manson concert was a sign language interpreter frantically gesturing on the side of the stage during every song. In the midst of a wild, over-the-top goth orgy, here was this regular person just doing their job. It makes me wonder if this woman could get a job signing for Cee Lo Green. (If your coworkers know sign language, then that's nsfw.)
