It's probably too late for that now, but I'd like to wish everyone a merry Christmas, even if it's just Chinese food and a movie.

Is anyone having a particularly good or bad holiday weekend? I found out today that my old cat (the one I had to give to a friend this summer) ran away and is almost certain not to be recovered, so I've been depressed over that.

On the other hand, I could have a fantastic Christmas and then watch my life get ruined: (link)

Oh, Scott, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat - that's terrible. I'm still in Massachusetts and having an ok time, the holiday itself was a lot of fun though. I'll talk to you more when I get home.

Yeah, I'd say that losing my pet (even formerly mine -- although I hope that would NEVER happen, either) would make it a Very Bad Christmas.

As it is, (for reasons I care not to mention right now,) this one *won't* go on record for being one of my happiest/best, either. In fact, I think it's damn close to the bottom. However, I got a really nice gift from my husband -- in the mail, since he's still in San Diego! (one more reason not a good one) -- which offsets the emotional damage of this one enough to make it "Bottom 5" instead of the worst!

I hope that we're the only two sad-sacks here, though, Scott -- maybe the new year will bring cheer, eh?

I had a really great time with my bf and his brother. I'm usually painfully shy with anyone but long term friends or my parents but we all got along quite well. It's a little difficult readjusting to the real world of work though, after a 4-day weekend :)

my condolences to those who have had less than stellar holidays...

Thanks, Denise -- at least the Thanksgiving part *was* stellar for me...

Thanks, y'all.

I had an interesting Christmas Eve and day. Christmas around my place is VERY family oriented and no one ever misses anything. I had to fly for 5 hours to get here. This year I ended up spending both Christmas Eve and Day in an airport in the middle of Quebec. I met up with a girl I had graduated from high school with and we split a hotel room on Christmas Eve. We ran into some others in the same predicament and ended up having a party. It was a lot of fun, but I did miss my family. We had been told we'd get home Christmas Day for sure and we were all at the airport 4:30AM. They cancelled all flights that day as well. I bought Christmas dinner at a gas station. No turkey sandwiches so I had to settle for chicken. Calling home was hell because my mom was so upset. Later that day they added a train to the run schedule and after 8 hours on that I was home. Just in time to celebrate Boxing Day. I'm hoping for less adventure on my return trip this coming weekend.

I know just what you mean, Nadine... but maybe you will look back on this one with a certain amount of fondness and romance? ("Romance" in its truest meaning...)

Ah, memories! I'm glad you finally made it in safely (as, I'm sure, was your mother!) -- have a safe (but memorable) return trip and a Happy New Year!

It's a British holiday on which you give gifts to acquaintances and public servants -- people like the mail carrier, the traffic cop, your neighbor, etc. -- that takes place on January 6 and originated as a way of celebrating Epiphany. The name derives from the fact that you "box up" gifts.

Oh, and as to the original topic -- yeah, I had a bad holiday weekend. Got the flu, and it was the week after my grandfather's funeral.

Finally home! Without my luggage though which seems to have gone to Nova Scotia without me. Jackie, there was no funny shower curtain ring salesman but there was a french bus driver who joined our Christmas Eve party and talking to him was amusing. Bus drivers have good stories. Kris is right about Boxing Day. We get the day off which is nice because you really need it the day after Christmas. The malls become mad houses. It's sort of like our "Black Friday".

Sorry to hear about your grandfather Kris. It's difficult whenever it happens but seems to be more so around holidays.
