Kelly and I have been keeping a mental list of songs that are pretty good, but that we never want to hear again, because we're sick of hearing them everywhere: Broadcast radio, online streaming, public places, friends' parties, et cetera.

The Verve, "Bittersweet Symphony"
Aretha Franklin, "Respect"
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, "Home"
The Offspring, "Self Esteem" (I don't know if this is a good song, but I've definitely heard it way too many times)

No more please. Stop playing these already. Someone make them stop!

What good songs have you heard enough times to last you the rest of your life?

Boy bands make good songs?

I saw a friend get pretty steamed recently when someone called the Beatles a "boy band," lumping them in with One Direction and the like. We started debating what conditions do or don't qualify a group as a boy band, like not playing instruments, singing only love songs, et cetera. We decided that the definition must be context-dependent, after we realized that the Three Tenors were a boy band by our definition.

So we're looking at songs that we enjoyed when they first came out and through the years have decided to change stations when we now hear them, right?

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
Eagles - Hotel California
Eagles - Life In The Fast Lane

Great songs, way overplayed.

Queen, "Bohemian Rhapsody"

Great song the first thousand times. Don't need to hear it again.

Speaking of Queen, I'm beginning to loathe "We Are The Champions".
