We are All Stars

I was in my hometown newspaper in Elgin in high school for being a writing "talent." They did (or do) a story every year about "exceptional" students in the area schools and I got to be in it. It was pretty neato, although the photographer was a pain in the butt and the journalist described me as "gamin," something that sort of bothers me to this day.
Oh, and I wrote an editorial column that was the same deal - high school students getting a say. I have no idea what it was about though, I think I wrote something about the ACT/SATs? I'd have to ask my mom.
As you can see, there was little news in my hometown.

So what did you do?

I think I was probably in the local papers bunches of times for various awards and stuff. My knee was on local news using hula hoops in gym class in first grade. The biggest thing was when I was on TV for the local knowledge bowl competition maybe twice... I didn't answer many questions, if any, but was on camera for a good length of time. Then shortly after I graduated from high school, my back got on CNN briefly for this supercomputer program in Livermore, California.
My mom gets on local news so much that she apparently decided it was no longer interesting enough to be worth mentioning to me :)

I've been in our newspaper numerous times and a few times on the TV stations.
My newspaper appearances have been for...
My father running for city council so they took a couple of family group photos.
A couple of times for high school functions.
A Sci-Fi convention or two.
The only TV appearance I know about was for...
Sci-Fi convention.
I might have been on TV more than that, but usually don't pay much attention to that kind of thing.

In the papers twice that I recall at the moment... 5th grade spelling bee, and I was in a Y-BAG (Youth of the Beaches Art Guild) production of "Hello, Dolly" the summer before 9th grade -- the photographer from the local paper came out and took a bunch of pics. He must have thought I was cute, because I got a solo shot amidst all the group/player action shots!

Hey, my daughter was on TV last night. The local news goes out to schools and have them make this little hand signal at the end of the newscasts. She was on 3 times. 5:30, 6:30, & 10:30. It was channel 5 news that she was on. It was pretty cool.

Wanted for questioning in three murders.
Kris Weberg | November 6, 2004
I hate it when that happens. The questions are always so boring!
Amy Austin | November 6, 2004
HAHAHAHA... Confused you with OJ, did they?
Anthony Lewis | November 6, 2004
LOL.
This is the actual truth though. It's TOO long and bizarre of a story though to get into here. Let's just say that I'm in the free and clear. The police never had me as a suspect. They just wanted some information. But in the process of looking for me, they went to one of the local NYC newspapers. Come to find out that they also went to the Unsolved Mysteries TV show as well.

This is a Washington Post Magazine story about the case.

I was featured in my college newspaper twice. Once, with that infamous picture of me. Another time for a letter I wrote.

You know, I had a sneaking suspicion that you might quite possibly be serious, Anthony -- which is why I thought very carefully about how to joke about it... after all, Chris Rock does it a lot better than I do! ;-DDDD
Anthony Lewis | November 7, 2004
It's alright Amy. The situation was, and still is serious. But my involvement was so bizarre that I can't help but laugh about it.
Amy Austin | November 7, 2004
That's good to hear, Anthony... if you haven't got your humor, what have you got? I'm glad you weren't implicated -- that's the important thing!

So, growing up, or recently, how many of you were in your hometown papers or on local TV, and what for?
